Next Book Discussion Group Meeting Monday, May 19!
The next book up for discussion is Audrey Niffenegger's novel, The Time Traveler's Wife.
Book jacket: This is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true. Because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictabloe, alternately harrowing and amusing. Clare nad Henry attempt to live normal lives; a pursuit threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control.
Books are available for pickup at any time during regular library hours. Join us for a discussion of this fascinating book!
Writing Workshops May 6, 20
May 6 - Good Readers Make Good Writers, with Bob Yehling and CCPL's Children's Librarian Rose Kirk - The differences between reading foir entertainment or to escape and reading as a practicing writer are many. When reading as a writer, we stuy not only an author's style, but also how he/she interweaves description, emotion, action, action verbs and language to create characters and narrative settings. We look at how the author utilized research collected along the way. We also show how you can follow the rhythm of the author's voice to locate your own. Here are secrets to making your reading work for your writing.
May 20 - The Final Draft, with Bob Yehling - Self-editing has never been a more critical part of the writing process than now. Between digital publishing, self-publishing and an overburdened print publishing world, editors and agents are demanding that manuscripts be polished before they see them. In this workshop, Bob Yehling condenses 25 years of editing experience to present specific steps and strategies to edit your work in a way that makes it sparkle - and catches the eyes of publishers and audiences.
